IBS Thin Film Coating

Ion beam sputtering produces the lowest loss, most stable and most durable optical thin films available today. Using a beam of energetic ions aimed directly at the target material produces extremely high quality, completely amorphous and fully densified film with optical and mechanical properties that are generally superior to films produced with either electron-beam evaporation or ion assisted deposition (IAD). REO’s thin films typically have absorption and scatter losses in the low parts per million range for visible and NIR wavelengths, are essentially impervious to changes in humidity and pressure, and are easy to clean and handle without damage.

Fabrication

REO is the industry’s recognized leader in the fabrication of high surface quality, ultra-low scatter superpolished optical surfaces. Advanced interfometric techniques are used throughout our manufacturing processes to produce precision surface figure, angles and dimensions along with the lowest microroughness in the world. The resulting defect-free superpolished surfaces with sub-angstrom surface roughness largely eliminate substrate-related scatter and failure sites. Working with one trusted source—REO—ensures consistency and accountability.

Metrology

Using in-house advanced state-of-the-art technology, REO continues to raise the bar in advanced test and measurement technology. Capabilities include ppm-level loss measurement, spectral characterization, surface metrology and custom functional laser testing. With a world-class staff of scientists and engineers, we have built a reputation for solutions to difficult measurement challenges. Our staff has developed highly specialized measurement technologies for laser damage testing, optical path-length measurement, and surface microstructure evaluation, among many others.
